Can ppr pipes be glued? The answer is no! Although there are special glues on the market for repairing ppr pipes, they can only solve short-term problems. Over time, the glue cannot withstand the pressure of the ppr water pipe, and it will eventually cause water leakage.
Why do ppr water pipes need to be melted instead of glued? The main reason is that the molecular structure of ppr water pipes is different from other water pipes! Because ppr water pipes are made of randomly copolymerized polypropylene, when they reach their melting point, they will bond with each other. Please note that this is not a combination, but a fusion! But PVC is different. Although PVC can also be hot melted, it can only produce a secondary melting point, which cannot reach the level of melting. The secondary melting point will make the PVC pipe a recyclable material. This is the important reason why ppr water pipes should be hot melted!
Common connection methods of ppr water pipes
1. Electrofusion connection
When the thermoplastic pipes of the same grade are connected, the electrofusion pipe fittings are put on, and the electrofusion pipe fittings are energized by the electrofusion connection machine, and the required heat is generated by the resistance wire embedded in the electrofusion pipe fittings. After cooling, the pipe fittings are welded. It is connected with the electric fusion pipe to become an integral connection method.
2. Flange connection
The connection method of the loose flange is composed of a thermoplastic flange connection piece and a metal flange plate inserted into it. The flange connection and the pipe can be connected by hot-melt connection or bonding.
3. Mechanical connection
The pipe fittings made of metal materials or high-strength plastics are tightly connected with the pipe fittings by mechanically tightening and sealing with special tools.
4. Card sleeve connection
A connection form that is connected by a special joint composed of a locking nut and a threaded pipe fitting.
